Upper Montclair, NJ (01/29/04) - The Montclair State University swimming teams swept Drew University tonight at Panzer Pool, with both the men's and women's squads winning by 101-82 scores.
The MSU men improved to 4-5 overall this winter with their third win in their last four outings, while the MSU women (1-8) celebrated their first victory of the campaign.
MSU senior
COLLEEN GRIFFIN (Bloomfield, NJ/Lacordaire Academy) won in the Women's 50 Free, finishing in a time of 25.53 seconds, and finished first in the Women's 100 Free (57.31). Junior
RACHEL YANNUZZI (Fairview, NJ/Paramus Catholic) took the Women's 200 IM in 2:32.01 minutes, and along with Griffin helped MSU take the Women's 400 Medley Relay (4:36.86). Drew senior Lia Romano (Landisville, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) won the Women's 200 Breaststroke (2:52.66) and sophomore Sarah Roman (Voorhesville, NY/Albany Academy for Girls) claimed the Women's 1000 Free (11:38.03).
On the men's side, MSU freshman
MOHAMED ABDELAAL (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) won the men's 50 Free (23.43) and Men's 100 Free (52.29. he also helped the Red Hawks win the Men's 400 Medley Relay (3:57.62) along with juniors
SCOTT MONTGOMERY (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and
SHANE SCHWARZ (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional), who won the Men's 200 Backstroke (2:04.60) and the 200 Fly (2:13.40), respectively. Drew senior Brent Archer (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton H.S.) took the Men's 200 IM (2:07.41), and also helped the visiting Rangers to victory in the Men's 400 Free Relay (3:35.79) along with junior Dave Walker (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton H.S.), who won the Men's 500 Free (5:22.98).
Montclair visits NYU on Saturday, Jan. 31, while Drew hosts Albright (PA) that day.
