Stockton Edges Women's Soccer in Overtime

Montclair, NJ (10/13/04) - Junior forward Kari Devine scored 1:17 into the first overtime period as Richard Stockton edged Montclair State, 1-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Soccer action at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Becky Baisley made eight saves for the Ospreys (9-4-1, 4-1 NJAC), who have won three straight.

It was the fourth consecutive meeting in which MSU and Richard Stockton needed overtime to decide a contest. The Ospreys have won three of the four, including the 2002 ECAC Metro Championship Game, when Devine notched the game-winner in a 2-1 victory. Last season, the teams played a pair of overtime tilts - a scoreless tie in the regular season and a 1-1 in the ECAC final won by Richard Stockton on penalty kicks.

Montclair State suffered its second straight loss and fell to 5-6-1 overall, 3-2 in the NJAC.

At the start of the overtime period, the Ospreys gained control of the free ball, and Jen Schultz landed a touch pass out to Devine, who dribbled in 10 yards before unleashing a shot from the right that got inside the near post for the game-winner.

Each team had their opportunities, with Montclair State getting most of them in the first half. Baisley stopped a pair of attempts from STEPHANIE SABALIAUSKAS, and she later snatched away a header by the Red Hawks' RUBY RUSSELL at the 23:03 mark. Devine nearly gave Richard Stockton the lead, but her shot seven minutes in was knocked away on the backline by ANNETTE BEDNARZ

In the second half, the tables were just about turned as MSU goalkeeper KRISTIN KUHMANN made six saves in the period. The Red Hawks got their best chance with 14:26 to play as JESS AMENDOLA fired a bending shot from right-to-left that Baisley sprawled out to catch, keeping the game scoreless.

Kuhmann finished with seven saves for MSU, which held a 17-14 advantage in shots.
