Stevens Tops Women's Soccer 2-0

Montclair, NJ (10/14/04) - Senior forwards Milia George and Valerie Barnhart each scored a goal as Stevens Tech remained unbeaten and recorded its seventh straight shutout and third consecutive victory with a 2-0 shutout of Montclair State in NCAA Division III Women's Soccer action at MSU Soccer Park on Thursday afternoon.

Barnhart also registered an assist, and Erica Midttveit made four saves for her eighth shutout of the year as the Ducks improved to 12-0-1 on the season. KRISTIN KUHMANN had eight saves for the Red Hawks (5-7-1), who have dropped three straight.

Stevens took the lead at 14:16 as the Ducks took advantage of a free-kick. From the left side, Barnhart lofted a cross in front of the goal to the near post. George then flicked a header from midair across into the upper right-hand corner for a 1-0 lead. The Ducks would extend their advantage to 2-0 at 38:37, as Barnhart collected her team-leading 14th of the season. Taking a touch pass from Cristina Fulgencio, Barnhart fired a shot that beat Kuhmann inside the right post.

In the second half, Montclair State would get opportunities to break through, but Midttveit would come up with the save each time. Medttveit was able to stop STEPHANIE SABALIAUSKAS' tap-in shot at 53:49 and denied LAUREN KOWALSKI on an attempt from the right side.

Stevens outshot Montclair State 17-8, and the Ducks also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. 

Stevens will look to extend both streaks on Saturday, October 16, when they host Mount Saint Vincent in their fourth Skyline game of the season. Montclair State will travel to Glassboro on the same day to face Rowan University.
