Montclair, NJ (10/02/04) - The Montclair State University men's soccer team posted its fifth shutout in its last six games in its 2-0 victory tonight over Ramapo College at Sprague Field.
The Red Hawks improve to 8-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, and 3-0 at Sprague Field, while the visiting Roadrunners fall to 8-1-1 on the year and 2-1-1 in league play.
Sophomore forward
RYAN MORGAN put MSU ahead, 1-0, at 31:20 with his sixth goal of the season as he fired a low shot through the grasp of Ramapo sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Jagodzinski. The goal was the first surrendered by Ramapo in ten games so far this season, and the first in over 928 minutes dating back to last season when it was Morgan tallying the game-winning goal in MSU's 1-0 triumph over the Roadrunners in the 2003 ECAC Metro Championship Game.
Montclair sophomore forward
ILYAS TASCI then took a throw-in down the left side by sophomore defender
TODD TUMELTY, pulled up along the goal line, and placed a shot inside the far right post for his second goal this fall and a 2-0 MSU lead at 60:53.
Junior goalkeeper
CHRIS OWEN finished with four saves for the Red Hawks, including three stops in the first half, while Jagodzinski finished with six stops for the Roadrunners, who held the edge in corner kicks (7-4) while MSU had the advantage in shots (13-9).
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 6, against Centenary College, while Ramapo entertains Kean in a makeup NJAC contest the following day.
