Red Hawks Lose All Four at Marymount Challenge

Arlington, VA (10/02/04) - The Montclair State volleyball team fell to 6-16 overall following the Marymount (VA) Tournament on Oct. 1-2. MSU went winless in four matches over two days against four different Division III opponents.

The Red Hawks lost, 3-0, to Catholic University (14-30, 27-30, 20-30) and 3-1 to Kean University (30-20, 26-30, 30-24, 30-28) on the first day. Senior hitter TIFFANY ACIZ posted a team-high 10 kills in each match, while MSU sophomore setter ELYSE GRYWALSKI collected a total of 42 assists. Sophomore hitter JANIRE LEBRON came up with 14 total digs, while junior blocker KELLY MCGUIRE notched 11 digs in the loss to Kean.

MSU then fell, 3-1, to Notre Dame (MD) (26-30, 23-30, 31-29, 23-30) and was swept, 3-0, by host Marymount (16-30, 15-30, 18-30) on the second day to close out the tournament. TIFFANY ACIZ recorded 19 kills and 14 digs against Notre Dame, while sophomore hitter HEATHER ACIZ produced 12 kills and Grywalski finished with 41 assists. Sophomore hitter ASIA LIVINGSTON had a team-high four service aces against Marymount while Lebron registered six digs.
 
MSU returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference action this Tuesday, Oct. 5, against visiting William Paterson University at Panzer Gym at 7:00 p.m. The Red Hawks are 1-2 so far this season in NJAC play.
