Newark, NJ (10/27/04) – Sophomore forward
BILL ANTHES, junior midfielder
MIKE HOGAN and reserve forward
MARCO COLASACCO netted goals as Montclair State shut out Rutgers-Newark, 3-0, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference regular-season finale for each squad.
With the victory, the Red Hawks (13-3-2, NJAC 5-2-1) earned the fourth seed in the NJAC Championship tournament and will host fifth-seeded Ramapo Saturday at noon in the MSU Soccer Park. Rutgers-Newark finished its season at 7-11-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the NJAC. Junior goalie
CHRIS OWEN got the victory, stopping four shots in 75 minutes before giving way to junior
EDGARD DINTEN in a shared shutout. Scarlet Raider senior keeper Carmine Cambareri made all four of his saves in the second half. Anthes scored the game-winner in the 28th minute by taking a lead into the box on one hop from senior defender Dan Wells and firing it past Cambareri into the right side of the net. Hogan banged in a penalty kick goal in the 65th minute for an insurance goal. With just 1:06 left, Colasacco deposited a short feed from junior reserve
DAVID AVILES for his first career goal.
The Red Hawks will meet Ramapo for the second time this season. Montclair posted a 2-0 win over the Roadrunners at Sprague Field on October 2.
