Ewing, NJ (10/27/04) – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Division III power The College of New Jersey at the Aquatics Center on Wednesday evening.
The men's squad fell to 1-1 with a 143-95 loss to the Lions while the women lost their second straight, 142-93.
Freshman
KRISTINE BATES and senior
RACHEL YANNUZZI were the lone individual winners for the Red Hawks women. Bates won the 500 freestyle for the second straight meets (26.18 while Yannuzzi took first place in the 200 breststroke (2:43.53).
MSU also took first place in the 400 freestyle relay as the quartet of
DIANA LUNDBERG, Carly Orpurt,
DANIELLE CARROLL and
DENISE GONGORA posted a time of 4:06.25.
On the men's side, freshman
RICKY MILLER was victorious in the 200 freestyle as he clocked in at 1:49.46.Miller also placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:10.84). Junior
BRYANT EDWARDS won both sections of the 1-meter diving competitions. Edwars led a 1-2-3 Montclair State finish as
ERIC LOREE was second with Steve Wehrle placing third in each event.
The Red Hawk are back in action on Friday, October 29 as they travel to Pennsylvania to face Kutztown University at 6:30 pm.
