Women's Basketball Stays Hot; Downs Newbury 72-53

Brookline, MA (2/7/04) - Senior forward DYETTE DILLARD (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures as Montclair State posted its eight straight win with a 72-53 victory over Newbury College on Saturday afternoon.

AMY SNYDER (Cranford, NJ/Union Catholic) added 12 points for the Red Hawks (18-3), who are on their longest winning streak since winning 10 straight during the 1994-95 season.

The Red Hawks jumped out to a 35-16 halftime lead as it limited the Knight Hawks to just 25 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes. Meanwhile, Montclair State shot 58 percent (18-of-31) from the field as Dillard, Snyder and STEPHANIE MACHIN (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) each scored eight points.

EBONY ALLEN (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson), Machin and PAM BARONE (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) each had 10 points for the Red Hawks, who also got nine points off the bench from Amanada Mullaney (Brooklyn, NJ/Bishop Ford).

Allen, Machin and Dillard each grabbed six rebounds while Snyder, Dillard and KRISTEN POTENZONE (Totowa, NJ/DePaul Catholic) handed out four assists apiece.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, February 11, as it hosts The College of New Jersey at Panzer Gymnasium in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup. MSU, 7-2 in NJAC play, leads the Lions for first-place in the Blue Division. In January, TCNJ defeated Montclair State, 73-60.
