New York, NY (2/9/04) – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out their dual meet season with a trio of victories at Baruch College.
The Red Hawks swept host Baruch as the men's team posted a 61-40 win while the women defeated the Bearcats, 34-20. The men also defeated NJIT, 51-37. Montclair's men's team finished 9-6, its best record since the 1992-93 season while the women closed out the year at 5-10 winning three of its final four dual meets.
Montclair State won nearly every event on both sides as it claimed three individual double-winners on the men's side.
MOHAMED ABDELAAL (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) was a dboule winner taking first-place honors in the 50 (26.31) and 100 freestyles (59.82). Abdelaal then helped the 200 medley relay team to victory with a time of 2:05.67.
PETER SINAGRA (North Bergen, NJ/St. Joseph's) also was a double winner as he won the 400 and 800 meter reaces with times of 4:38.89 and 9:36.46, respectively.
JAMES SHEERIN (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) won the 200 freestyle (2:13.92) and 100 backstroke (1:11.92).
On the women's side,
ADRIENNE RICHARDI (Randolph, NJ/Randolph ) captured both the 100 backstroke (1:19.86) and 200 freestyle (2:29.11). Richardi then swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200 medley relay team (2:26.50).
The Red Hawks will close out their 2003-04 season as they compete in the Metropolitan Championships, which will be held at Rutgers University in New Brunswick from February 20-22. Last year, the MSU women's team placed fifth while the men's squad was seventh.
