Brocklebank Lifts Women's Lacrosse Past Eastern

St. David's, PA (04/22/04) - Freshman SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) scored four goals as Montclair State picked up its 10th win of the season with an 11-7 victory over Eastern College (PA) on Thursday afternoon.

BRIANNA GILLIN (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), NICOLE LAROCCA (Shamong,. NJ/Shawnee) and ABBEY MORGAN (Willingboro, NJ/Moorestown Friend) each added two goals for the Red Hawks, who improved to 10-1 overall as they reached double-digits in victories for the first time in the program's history.

The Red Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 12 minutes as Morgan scored at the 1:44 mark and Gillin netted her first at 2:58 for a 2-0 lead. Morgan got her second of the half at 6:46 before LaRocca gave MSU a four-goal lead with her first tally at 12:34. Eastern would answer as Arielle Parker (Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) scored, but Montclair responded with the next three goals. Gillin scored once and Brocklebank twice as the Red Hawks took an 8-2 halftime lead.

In the second half, Eastern scored the first four goals of the period to pull within 8-6. Clare Ruegsegger (Nyack, NY/Nyack) scored twice and Lauren House (Delran, NJ Delran) netted a goal at 45:29 to make the scored 8-6.

Brocklebank answered for MSU as she netted the hat trick at the 49:43 mark and KRISTEN GISONDI (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor) scored off an assist from CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) at 50:13 to make the score 10-6. Brocklebank pushed the lead to five as she scored unassisted at 55:31 for the final Montclair goal.

Homiek finished with five assists while goalkeeper KRISTEN KUHMANN (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) made 15 saves. MSU came up with the victory despite being outshot in the game, 30-24.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 22 as it hosts Rowan University at Sprague Field. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
