CHRIS MEIXNER (Hamburg, NJ/Vernon) scored twice and added an assist as Montclair State closed out its regular season with a 7-4 victory over New York Maritime in Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
BRIAN FISCHER (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and
JOHN DELLA PESCA (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) added two goals for the Red Hawks (11-2, 4-2 KLC), who clinched the second seed in the inaugural Knickerbocker Conference tournament which begins on Wednesday, April 28th. Montclair State will host the first-round game at Sprague Field and face Richard Stockton at 7:00 pm.
MSU edged the Ospreys, 8-7 back on April 7 in Pomona.
Kevin Swift (New Market, MD) scored twice for New York Maritime, which ended its season at 5-6, 2-4 in the KLC.
Swift scored twice to put the Privateers up 2-0 after the first period, but Montclair came back in the second as
RICH DOYEN (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) got MSU on the board at the 12:16 mark and Della Pesca tied the game at 2-2 with 11:58 to play. Dan Taleki would put Maritime back in front on a goal with just over four minutes left, however Della Pesca got his second with 7:18 to play before half as the team headed to intermission tied at 3-3.
In the third quarter, MSU took the lead for good as Meixner scored at 9:39 of the period and Fischer tallied his first to give the Red Hawks as 5-3 lead heading into the final 15 minutes. The combination of Fischer and Meixner would each score one in the fourth as Montclair held Maritime scoreless until the 43 seconds left in the game as Bill Martino scored
ALAN ANNAZONE (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) made 10 saves for Montclair State, which outshot the Privateers, 28-22 in the game. Dan Kean (Galena, MD) had nine saves for Maritime.
