Montclair, NJ - Senior midfielder
CHRIS MEIXNER (Hamburg, NJ/Vernon) scored four times and
RICH DOYEN (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) added three goals as top-seeded and defending champion Montclair State defeated fourth-seeded Farmingdale State, 13-5, in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Metro Men's Lacrosse Tournament at Sprague Field on Firday evening.
BRIAN FISCHER (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) also had three goals for the Red Hawks (13-3), who will host third-seeded Richard Stockton in the championship game on Sunday, May 9 at 1:00 pm. The Ospreys (8-7) knocked off second-seeded Drew University, 8-7, in the other semifinal.
The meeting will be the third between MSU and Stockton with the Red Hawks winning the previous two, including a 14-9 win in the semifinals of the Knickerbocker Tournament at Sprague Field on April 28. Montclair State has won three ECAC titles (1989, 1994 and 2003).
John Vaeth (Merrick, NJ/Calhoun) scored three times for Farmingdale (8-6), which fell to Montclair State for the second time this season. The Rams lost 11-7 at Sprague Field on March 24.
Meixner, the MVP of the 2003 ECAC Tournament, got Montclair State off to a fast start as he netted a hat-trick just under five minutes into the game and Fishcer got his first with 9:18 to play in the opening period as Montclair built a 4-0 lead. Vaeth and Tom Stanley (Baldwin, NJ/Baldwin) answered for Farmingdale to cut the lead in half, but Meixner countered with his fourth of the period as MSU led 5-2 after one.
Doyen helped Montclair to a 7-2 lead at intermission as he scored twice, including an unassisted tally with 8:59 to play as he intercepted a clearing pass from goalkeeper Anthony Sheridan (Bellmore, NY/Mepham) deep in the defensive zone.
Fischer would add two more in the second half and defender Ken Weinraub (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) added a goal as he went coast-to-coast to give Montclair a 12-3 lead with just over three minutes to play.
Sheridan made 16 stops for the Rams, who were outshot in the game, 41-30 and went just 1-of-9 on the extra-man advantage.
ALAN ANNAZONE (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) made 14 saves for the Red Hawks.
