Haverford, PA (09/04/04) - The Montclair State University women's soccer team fell to 0-2 on the 2004 season with a 2-0 loss today to Lynchburg College in the first round of the Haverford Kick-Off Classic at Haverford College.
MSU began the campaign with a 2-1 setback at Moravian College on Sept. 1, while today's game was the first for Lynchburg.
Meredith Rooney scored just 12 minutes into the game for Lynchburg off a corner kick, and the one-goal lead held up until Christina DiLiddo tallied an unassisted goal at the 70:16 mark for the Hornets. Sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Kuhmann made two saves for MSU, which outshot Lynchburg, 12-6, while Erin Johnson collected five stops for the Hornets. Each team finished with one corner kick, while Lynchburg held the edge in fouls, 11-6.
The Red Hawks will now face Arcadia (PA) University, which fell, 9-0, to host Haverford today, in the consolation game tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Montclair State then opens its 2004 home schedule against Stevens Tech on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 4:00 p.m. at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field.
