Stockton Hands Women's Basketball Second Straight Loss

Pomona, NJ (01/15/05) - The Montclair State women's basketball team suffered its second straight loss as the Red Hawks fell to Richard Stockton, 61-52 at the Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.

Jenna Shenk had 13 points and Takisha Pride added 11 and five rebounds as the Ospreys improved to 10-5 overall, 4-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. STEPHANIE MACHIN had a game-high 14 points for Montclair, which fell to 8-6, 3-4 in the NJAC.

Richard Stockton led from start to finish and jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first six minutes of the game. Montclair State got back into the game and cut the lead to two as CYNTHIA WARRINGTON drained a three-pointer to make the score 14-12 with 7:15 left.

But Richard Stockton scored eight of the next nine points to restore the lead to nine points. Kristin Spencer and Lisa Zak hit consecutive three pointers and after a free throw by Machin, Pride hit a layup to make the score 22-13 with 3:42 to go before halftime. Stockton took a 26-16 lead into the locker room.

Montclair State would get within 28-24 early in the second half as JENNIFER RUSSELL scored on a layup, but Richard Stockton answered again with an 11-2 run to all but put the game away. Krystle Umscheied had four points in the run and Pride converted a three-point play to put the Ospreys in front, 39-26 with 14:14 left.

Umscheid had 10 points for Richard Stockton while Alicia Morris grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Russell had eight points and nine rebounds for MSU, which also got nine points from JESSICA HORAN and eight points from Amanada Mullaney. Turnovers also proved costly for Montclair, which committed 32 in the game.

The Red Hawks will look to get back on the winning track on Wednesday, January 19 as they travel to Union to face the Cougars of Kean University. Tip-off of the NJAC contest is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
