Montclair, NJ (01/19/05) - The Montclair State men's swimming team won for the third time in its last four meets as the Red Hawks defeated Vassar College, 91-70 at the Panzer Pool on Wednesday evening. The win pushed the Red Hawks record to 7-4 overall this season while the Brewers fell to 1-5.
Montclair State won seven of the 13 events contested, including the 400 medley relay as the quartet of
SCOTT MONTGOMERY,
AHMED ABDELAAL ,
SHANE SCHWARZ and
MOHAMED ABDELAAL posted a time of 3:54.11.
Freshmen
RYAN GORSKY and
RICKY MILLER captured the 1000 and 200 freestyles, respectively. Gorsky posted a time of 10:47.58 in his victory while Miller swam 1:52.49 in winning his event. Other winners for the Red Hawks included freshman
MATT GUIDI, who led a 1-2-3 finish for MSU in the 50 free. Guidi registered a time of 23.96 followed by
AHMED ABDELAAL (24.27) and
RODOLFO MORRELL (25.63).
Schwarz was victorious in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.10 with
ERIC LOREE taking first place in the 1-meter diving. Loree recorded a winning score of 140.65.
For Vassar, Matthew Shapiro won the 100 freestyle and then helped the 400 freestyle relay team to a first-place spot (3:53.06). William Oldehoff and James Dodington went 1-2 in the 200 breaststroke with times of 2:27.67 and 2:41.83, respectively. Doug Dalessandro won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:35.75.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, January 22 as the Red Hawks make the eight-mile trip to Wayne to face local rival William Paterson in a men's and women's meet at 1:00 pm. Vassar get back into the pool on Saturday, January 29 as the Brewers are at Pace University for a combined dual meet .
