Red Hawks Down Baruch, Fall to Hunter in Regular-Season Finale

New York, NY (10/22/05) –  The Montclair State volleyball team closed out its regular season on Saturday as the Red Hawks split a tri-match at Baruch College. The Red Hawks (10-15) defeated Baruch in four sets before falling toHunter College by the same 3-1 margin.

Junior HEATHER ACIZ collected 28 kills in the matches as MSU knocked off Baruch, 30-25, 18-30, 32-30 and30-22. Montclair then took the first game from Hunter, 30-20, before the Hawks came back with wins in the final three games, 30-24, 30-24and 30-21.

Aciz had 14 kills and 26 digs along with three service aces in the win over Baruch. Freshman JULIANA FERDINAND led Montclair State with 16 kills and also had 15 digs. Sophomore MELISSA CIACCIO had 43 assists and 17 digs while junior ZAIRY RAMOS added 13 kills and 15 digs while RAQUEL PICHARDO had 25 digs.

AgainstHunter, Aciz posted 14 kills and 22 digs along with two service aces. Ferdinand had 11 kills and 10 digs while SAMANTHA KARPINSKI collected seven kills. Ciaccio recorded 37 assists and Ramos added eight kills and 21 digs. JANIELLE SANCHEZ led the Red Hawks with 26 digs in the match.
 
Montclair State will now wait to see if they qualify for the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament. The conference season closes out on Tuesday with the Red Hawks (2-5 NJAC) currently a half game behind Ramapo (2-4) and Kean (2-4) for fifth place. Ramapo plays at William Paterson while Kean faces New Jersey City.
