Montclair, NJ (10/28/05) – The College of New Jersey captured 23 of the 26 events contested as the Lions swept a dual meet with Montclair State University in NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving action at the Panzer Pool on Friday evening. The TCNJ men posted a 145-92 victory over the Red Hawks while the women's squad defeated MSU, 142-79. The meet was the season opener for both teams.
Beth Hurley captured both the 50 and 100 freestyle races as she posted times of 26.06 and 57.51, respectively. Lee Swanson swept both events in the 1-meter diving. Other winners for the TCNJ women included Sara Casciano , who won the 1000 freestyle (11:42.02), and Emily Reichard in the 200 free (2:04.43). Erin Stuz finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:15.57) and helped the 400 medley relay team to victory. Christine Marino , Karen Bocian and Catherine Benigno rounded out that winning quartet. Benigno also won the 200 backstroke (2:23.16) and Bocian took first place in the 500 freestyle (5:34.90). TCNJ completed its evening by winning the 400 freestyle relay as the team of Casciano, Kerry Genese,Caitlin Elmendorf and Stefanie Rashti posted a time of 4:00.07.
On the men's side, Josh Forsman won both the 1000 freestyle and 200 butterfly. Forsman posted a time of 10:52.80 in the 1000 free and then added a win in the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.39. Liam Gallagher won the 500 freestyle (5:02.10) and also swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:17.54) that included Kyle King , Jeff Glenn and Tom Nawrot . Mike Molloy posted a victory in the 200 backstroke (2:01.38). Greg Lloyd won the second portion of the 1-meter diving (236.10).
Montclair State's three event wins came in the men's 400 medley relay as
JOHN ADAMS,
DREW DECAGNA,
RICKY MILLER and
MOHAMED ABDELAAL posted a time of 3:44.47.
BRYANT EDWARDS took first place in the first portion of the men's 1-meter diving event with a score of 152.60.
ERIC LOREE and
STEVE WEHRLE finished third (116.55) and fourth (109.75), respectively.
TRACEY GROEL was the lone winner for the Red Hawks women's team. Groel took top honors in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:38.77.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, November 12 as they host Providence College out of the Big East Conference at the Panzer Pool (12:00 pm).
