Farmingdale, NY (12/12/05) – Sophomore guard I'shawna West led Farmingdale State (5-4) with a game-high 26 points as the women's basketball team defeated Montclair State (5-4) 80-75 on Monday evening.
The win by Farmingdale snapped the Red Hawks' three-game win streak an put MSU at 5-4 as they head into a 21-day break.
The score was tied seven times in the first half, with neither team leading by more than seven points. Farmingdale State led 46-45 at the half and kept the pressure on in the second to hold on for the win. Kristen Tong scored 15 points for the Rams. Junior Rochelle Clark finished with 11 points and five assists. Mercedes Miller just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Montclair State's
JESSICA GARRABRANT accounted for half of the teams rebounds with a career-high 24 (16 coming in the first half), along with eight points, five assists and three steals.
STEPHANIE MACHIN led the scoring with 16 points, followed by
MEGHAN KELLEY with 15 and
MARIANNE MCGOVERN with 14 points and nine assists.
MSU returns to action on Monday, January 2 as they travel to Manhattan to face the Violets of New York University at 7:00 pm.
