Totaro Tosses No-Hitter as Softball Splits with No. 7 Wheaton

Fort Myers, FL (3/16/05) - Junior righthander ATHANASIA TOTARO (right) tossed a no-hitter in the first game as the Montclair State softball team earned a split against seventh-ranked Wheaton (MA) at the Gene Cusic Classic held at Lee County Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Totaro tossed the second no-hitter of the season for MSU (7-1), which took the first game 3-0. In the second contest, Amy Rowbottom allowed six hits and one run as the Lyons (8-2) earned the split with a 6-1 triumph.

Totaro walked four and struck out six as she posted her second career no-hitter and third consecutive shutout while improving to 4-0 this season.

Senior second baseman NICOLE PACICCO provided all of the scoring for the Red Hawks. Pacicco launched a two-run homer in the top of the third to put Montclair in front.

MSU tacked on another run in the seventh as JOELLE FATA singled to open inning and came home on a run-scoring double by Pacicco, who finished 4-for-4 in the contest.

In the second game, the Red Hawks seven-game win streak came to an end as Rowbottom scattered six hits and four walks, upping her record to 3-0. Wheaton scored two runs in the top of the first off MSU starter DANA WARNOCK and added another in the second.

Montclair would get back a run in the bottom of the second as JACKIE FERRANTI doubled and scored on Crystal Dahlhaus's RBI single.

Warnock (3-1) took the loss allowing four runs and six hits in 3 1/3 innings. She struck out two.

The Red Hawks conclude their 10-game schedule at the Gene Cusic Classic on Thursday, March 17. Montclair will face Western New England at 9:00 am followed by an 11:00 am start against Norwich.
