Women's Baskebtall Ousted From ECAC Tournament

Montclair, NJ (03/02/05) – Sixth-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson University, College at Florham went on a 12-0 run late in the second half and scored 19 of the game's final 23 points to eliminate third-seeded host Montclair State University, 62-53, tonight at Panzer Gymnasium in the first round of the 2005 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Women's Metro Basketball Championship.

Trailing 49-43 with 8:08 remaining in regulation, FDU-Florham scored 12 unanswered points to take the lead for good, 55-49, with 3:27 left while also holding MSU without a point for over six minutes, until just over two minutes remained.

Senior forward Pamela Sagehorn paced the visiting Devils with 16 points and four assists while adding seven rebounds and three steals, while FDU junior forward Ashley Flaherty finished with 13 points and led the Devils with 11 rebounds.

MSU sophomore forward STEPHANIE MACHIN led all players with 17 points and also collected seven rebounds and four assists. Junior forward AMANDA MULLANEY scored 13 points and had a game-high 12 rebounds and three blocks, while freshman guard CYNTHIA WARRINGTON tallied 11 points and freshman guard JESSICA GARRABRANT posted 11 rebounds. FDU-Florham also shot 18-for-23 from the free throw line, while MSU went just 11-for-24.

FDU-Florham advances to the second round of the ECAC Metro Championships this Friday night, either visiting second-seeded Baruch College or hosting seventh-seeded Rutgers-Newark. MSU, which was playing in the ECACs for the third straight time this year, fell to fourth-seeded Drew University, 82-70, last season at home in the ECAC Metro semifinals, with the Rangers going on to win the title.
