Totaro Shuts Down Rowan in One-Hit Effort

Glassboro, NJ (4/10/05) - Junior righthander Anthansia Totaro (right) threw a one-hit shutout as Montclair State blanked Rowan University, 2-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon.

The result was a complete turnaround for the Red Hawks, who trailed Rowan, 6-0, in the second game of their doubleheader on Monday when play was stopped due to darkness. By NJAC rule, the game was to be replayed in its entirety.

Totaro threw her fifth shutout of the season as she walked three and did not walk a batter while improving to 8-3 this season. Sara Dickey took the loss despite allowing ony one hit.

Montclair State took a 1-0 lead in the second as MEGAN SWEENEY walked to open the inning and moved to second on MEGAN TANTUM's sacrifice. DANA WARNOCK drew a walk and Crystal Dahlhaus singled to center loading the bases. JOELLE FATA then grounded into a fielder'choice, scoring Sweeney with the only run the Red Hawks would need.

MSU extended the lead to 2-0 in the fifth without the benefit of a hit. Dahlhaus drew a leadoff and walk and moved to second on Fata's sacrifice. Totaro's grounder to the right side moved the runner to third and Dahlhaus came home on a wild pitch.

Meanwhile, Totaro was dominating, retiring the final 15 hitters he she faced after Lauren Navarro reached second on a two-base error in the third. The only hit Rowan got was a one-out infield single by Nicole Panikiewsky in the first.

The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, April 12 as they face the Dolphins of Staten Island at 3:30 pm.
