DARA NALVEN had a hand in both goals as Montclair State blanked New York University, 2-0, in NCAA Division III Women's Soccer action at MSU Soccer Park on Monday afternoon.
Nalven scored the first and later assisted on
NICOLE KOGUT's tally as the Red Hawks defeated NYU for the second straight season and improved to 4-5 on the year. Katie Barnes made four saves for NYU (5-3-1), which had its three-game win streak snapped.
Nalven broke a scoreless tie in the 27th minute as she picked up a loose ball in front of the net and fired a shot toward the lower left side for her second goal of the season. Montclair State took the 1-0 lead in to halftime. In the second half, MSU extended the lead to 2-0 with 38:08 to play. Off a corner kick, Nalven lofted a perfect pass in front to Kogut, who then headed the ball in from eight yards out into the upper-middle portion of the net. It was Kogut's first collegiate goal.
KRISTIN KUHMANN made three saves as she posted her fourth shutout of the season and 14th of her career.
Montclair State outshot the Violets. 10-6 and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 28 as they continue their three-game homestand. MSU will host New Jersey City University in an NJAC matchup at Sprague Field beginning at 7:00 pm. NYU returns to action on Saturday, October 1 as they open play in the UAA with a road contest at University of Rochester (3:30 pm).
