Women's Basketball Cruises Past Rowan

Glassboro, NJ (1/21/06) – Guard JESSICA GARRABRANT scored 17 points and forward STEPHANIE MACHIN added 15 in Montclair State University's 63-57 conference win over host Rowan University on Saturday afternoon. Garrabrant also grabbed seven rebounds while Machin pulled down six.

Montclair State is 10-6 overall and 8-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Rowan has as overall record of 4-12 and a 2-8 conference mark.

For the Profs, forward Lauren Bryne totaled 17 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Guard Sheema Carr followed with 16 points.

The first half ended with MSU ahead 34-17. After the second tie of the game (4-4) at 16:41, the Red Hawks scored 17 straight points to lead 21-4 with 8:58 left. Machin contributed with six points in the run. Garrabrant's layup put Montclair State up 32-8 at 2:45. The 24 points was the Red Hawks biggest lead of the game.

Rowan came back in the final period with a 17-3 surge to trail by three points (37-34) at 11:12. Carr scored six points while forward Ashley Cieplicki had five. MSU has an 11 point advantage (49-38) after guard CYNTHIA WARRINGTON's three-pointer. Cieplicki made a layup to pull the Profs within two points with 1:38 remaining. Garrabrant made two free throws and MSU led by four (56-52) at 1:19.

Guard Nicole Perrini nailed a three and the Profs were down by one (56-55) with 1:06 left. In the last 47 seconds, MSU made seven of eight foul shots to seal the victory. Machin was two for two from the line while Garrabrant made five of six free throws.

MSU returns home on Wednesday, Januray 25 at 8pm.
