Dutko Lifts Women's Soccer Past Stockton

Montclair, NJ (10/21/06) – Senior midfielder KELLY DUTKO (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) scored the game lone goal just under seven minutes remaining the first half as Montclair State posted its third straight win with a 1-0 victory over Richard Stockton in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Sprague Field on Saturday evening.

Senior goalkeeper KRISTIN KUHMANN ( Beachwood , NJ / Toms River South) made nine saves for the Red Hawks, who improved to 11-4-2 on the season and 5-1-2 in the NJAC. The victory was just MSU's fourth against the Ospreys in 23 meetings ( 4-12-7 ), the first since a 1-0 victory on an own goal in 2002 and it marked the ninth time in series that the game was decided by a one-goal margin.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Rogers ( Medford , NJ / Shawnee ) made four saves for Richard Stockton, which fell to 12-4-2 on the year, 4-2-1 in the conference. The Ospreys entered the day just one-point behind MSU for third place in the league.

Dutko scored her seventh goal of the season at the 38:34 mark. In a quick transition from the defensive end by Montclair State , forward NATALIA SISTI ( Lincoln Park , NJ /DePaul) controlled the ball and dribbled toward the middle before lofting a pass over the top. Dutko gained possession and moved around a defender before chipping a shot past the left hand of Rogers and into the right side of goal for the only score.

The goal gave Dutko 69 career points, which moved her into fifth-place on the all-time scoring list as she passed Karen Voorhees (1991-1992).

Richard Stockton, which outshot Montclair State , 13-10 in the game had several chances to tie the contest in the second half, however, Kuhmann came up with saves each time. Laura O'Shea ( Petersburg , NJ / Ocean City ) was stopped twice early in the period and Courtney Dougherty ( Ocean City , NJ / Ocean City ) was thwarted at 65:38. Kuhmann would get another save off a Samantha Bean ( Manchester , NJManchester) in the 77 th minute and Dougherty would be denied with 7:40 remaining.

Rachel Friel (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) had the final shot at 82:51, but again Kuhmann made the save to record her ninth shutout of the season and 26th of the season.

Each team had five corner kicks.

Montclair State returns to action on Sunday, October 22 as travel across the Hudson River to take on New York University at 2:00 pm. Richard Stockton will host Rutgers-Camden in an NJAC matchup at 6:00 pm on Monday, October 23.
