HEATHER ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) finished with 33 kills and broke both the Montclair State single-season and career marks as the Red Hawks closed out their regular season by splitting a tri-match at Panzer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. MSU (13-19), topped Baruch College in three sets before falling to FDU-Florham in five. In the middle match of the day, FDU-Florham posted a 3-0 victory against Baruch.
Megan Redd (Lakewood, CO/Lakewood Academy) had 27 kills on the day for FDU-Florham (21-12), which completed the afternoon by coming back from a 2-0 deficit against Montclair State to win the match – 20-30, 20-30, 30-28, 37-35 and 15-12. Redd finished with 17 kills for the Devils in the match with MSU while Christa SanFilippo (Spring, TX/Klein) added 13. Michelle Yered (Millis, MA/Millis) and Meghan Droge (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg) each had 11. Lindsey Flora (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had 40 assists and 13 digs while sister Lindsey added 29 digs.
For Montclair State, Aciz had 16 kills, six service aces and a match-high 32 digs for the Red Hawks. Aciz surpassed Jill Gastelu (1995-1998) for the all-time kill lead at Montclair State as she now has 1,107 in her career and earlier in the day broke Gastelu's 1998 record for kills in a season as she collected 17 in the win over Baruch to give her 404 on the year.
Freshman
ANNA CHESNAKOVA (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had a match-high 25 kills versus FDU-Florham to go along with nine total blocks, including eight solos. Freshman Kara Burham (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) had 17 kills while Sam Karpinski (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) added 16 kills. Freshman
RAISA SILVA (Newark, NJ/East Side) had 74 assists and five digs.
MSU opened the day with a 30-16, 30-13, 30-20 win over Baruch (12-16). Chesnakova had 13 kills and 2.5 blocks in the victory while Karpinski and Karin Martin (Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Township) each chipped in with six kills and three service aces. Aciz had 17 digs in the match.
Staren Soanes (Dominica, West Indies/Norman Thomas) had five kills for Baruch with Alice Livermore (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) and Maya Kagan (Brooklyn, NY/Stuyvesant) each recording three. Myra Estepan (Jackson Heights, NY/Francis Lewis) recorded 11 assists.
FDU defeated the Bearcats in straight sets, 30-22, 30-10 and 30-26. SanFilippo had nine kills with Droge and Redd each getting eight apiece and Yered adding seven kills. Lindsey Flora finished with 30 assists, four service aces and seven digs while Ashley Flora had 24 digs. Livermore had seven kills for Baruch as did Nicole Baruffaldi (New York, NY/Ossining). Lizmarie Vasquez (Bronx, NY/Lehman) had 23 digs with Esepan registering 17 assists.
