JENNA GALLO (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) capped a three-goal rally as seventh-ranked Montclair State rallied from three goals down, however No. 6 Ursinus came up with the game-winner in OT as the Bruins topped the Red Hawks, 4-3 in a battle of Top 10 teams on Saturday afternoon.
Abby Loefflad scored 6:54 into the extra period as Ursinus improved to 10-2 overall this season while Montclair State had its three-game winning streak snapped in falling to 9-2.
Ursinus jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 27:27 mark of the first period as Jennie Moore scored the first of her two goals. In the second half the Bruins extended the lead five minutes in as Jess Rogers scored off a penaly corner. Just over three minutes later Moore converted a penalty stroke to give Ursinus a three-goal lead with 25:37 left in the game.
But back came Montclair State as
MEGAN PIETRUNTI (Middletown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) knocked in a goal off a penalty corner with
JUSTINE DIPAOLO (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey) getting the assist.
Junior
LAUREN ZEHNDER (Emmaus, PA/Southern Lehigh) cut the deficit to 3-2 at 52:11 as the Red Hawks converted another penalty corner.
JEN SOSS (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) recorded the assist and she and
JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) assisted on Gallo's goal with 13:53 to play.
Freshman goalkeeper
JACQUIE SUPKO (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) made 14 saves for Montclair State while Bruins' goalkeeper Jess Lamina stopped seven shots.
Ursinus held a 23-13 advantage in shots with each team getting 13 penalty corners apiece.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, October 11 as it travels to Madison, NJ to face Drew University in a 7:00 pm matchup.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, October 5 as they travel fifth-ranked Ursinus for 1:00 pm battle of Top 10 teams. SUNY New Paltz is at home on the same day against Oswego also at 1:00 pm.
