New London, CT (10/7/06) – Senior forward
RYAN MORGAN (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) scored the game's lone goal with 10:30 left in the first half as ninth-ranked Montclair State rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 1-0 victory over Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon.
Leroy Sequeira (Newark, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) assisted on the goal as Montclair bounced back from its 3-2 loss to Rhode Island College on Thursday to improve to 12-1 on the season, the best 13-game start in school history.
Morgan got what turned out the only scoring in the game at 34:30 taking a pass from Sequeira in front of the net and getting its past Pequot goalkeeper Ryan West for his ninth goal of the season.
The goal was also the 40th career marker for Morgan, who became the fifth player in MSU history to score 40 goals in a career. He also moved within two points of newly-elected Hall of Fame member John Rubinetti for fifth on the all-time scoring list. Morgan has 95 points in his three-plus seasons with the Red Hawks.
Junior goalkeeper
GABE MERLA (Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield) made two saves as he recorded his first shutout of the season and moved to 4-0 on the year.
West had three saves for Mitchell, which was outshot in the game, 15-3. MSU also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, October 11 as it returns to NJAC play with a 7:30 pm road contest at Kean University.
