West Palm Beach, FL. – Junior Lene Bjerkeli scored twice in the second half to lead Northwood University (Fla.) to a 2-1 victory over Montclair State University in collegiate women's soccer action Sunday at Arrigo Field.
The Seahawks remain undefeated as they improve to 8-0. The Red Hawks, meanwhile, fall to 8-4-1.
Freshman
NATALIA SISTI got Montclair State on the board first at the 57:40 mark. Sisti was able to use a header from Senior
KELLY DUTKO to get behind the Northwood defense and beat freshman keeper Adi Jurman with a shot to the right side. Sophmore
ANGELA MARTONE was also credited with an assist on the play.
Bjerkeli evened the less than three minutes later though, as the Stavern, Norway product ran onto a feed from freshman Katya Salguero and beat senior keeper
KRISTIN KUHMANN with a shot to the lower right hand corner of the cage.
Bjerkeli and Salguero teamed up again to score the game-winning goal in the 81st minute as Salguero once again served a pass in the box to a streaking Bjerkeli, who deposited the ball into the back of the net. Bjerkeli now leads the Seahawks with 13 goals this season.
The Seahawks held a 23-6 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Northwood returns to action Thursday in a 3 p.m. contest at Webber International. Montclair State returns to the pitch on Wednesday as it hosts Kean at 7 p.m.
