JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJJefferson) scored twice and set two more Montclair State records as the Red Hawks closed out their regular season with a 3-1 victory over Mount Holyoke College in a game held at Trinity College (CT) on Wednesday evening.
SHANNON GILL (Branchville, NJ/High Point Regional) also had a goal for the Red Hawks, who closed out their regulat season at 14-3 and will now await their post season fate. Bids for the NCAA Division III Tournament will be chosen on Sunday, November 5 with ECAC bid announced on Monday, November 6.
Tanis set new marks for career goals scored and points in a season as she reached 41 and 58, respectively. The junior, who already holds the career mark ofr points and season record for goals, collected her 21st of the season as she snapped a scoreless tie 3:45 into the second half off an assist from
JEN SOSS (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert).
The goal gave Tanis 56 points on the year breaking the single-season mark of 55 set by Megan Ulicny in 2003. It was the 40th goal of Tanis's career tying the mark held by Anna Wimberg (1974-77).
Gill would extend the lead to two goals just under three minutes later a she notched her second goal of the season on a penalty stroke. Tanis then pushed the lead to 3-0 as she past Wimberg for the record at 49:09 taking a feed from
KRISTEN SWARTZ (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham). Tanis now has 58 points this season and 105 in her 56-game Montclair State career.
Mount Holyoke (5-14) got a goal back with 8:42 remaining as Jaimie Macari scored off a penalty corner with Ariana Baudouin picking up the assist.
JACQUIE SUPKO (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) made four saves for Montclair State, which held a 15-5 advantage in shots. Allie Walsh made 11 saves for Mount Holyoke.
