Lebanon Valley Downs MSU in Rinso Marquette Tournament, 66-60

Annville, PA – Lebanon Valley's Jimmy Curran forced overtime with a free throw with eight seconds remaining in regulation and scored four of his 19 points during a decisive 6-0 spurt in overtime as the Flying Dutchmen outlasted Montclair State, 66-60 in the consolation game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Dan Hodge and Hunter Bertschneider each scored 15 points for LVC as the Flying Dutchmen (1-1) out scored MSU 13-7 in the extra period.

Freshman MIKE HERN (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) had 18 points for Montclair State, which is off to an 0-2 start for the first time since he 1994-95 season. CHARLES MILLER (Linden, NJ/Linden) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Red Hawks trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half, but rallied to take a 42-41 lead with 12:05 left as JONATHAN ARTHUR (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) scored on a layup. Lebanon Valley would go back in front by five at 50-45, but a three-pointer by Hern with 47 seconds left gave MSU a 53-52 lead.

Montclair had a chance to increase the lead but missed two free throws leaving the door open for Curran, who was fouled with eight seconds left. He made the first, but missed the second keeping the game tied. Off the miss, Hern drove for a layup but his attempt was blocked away by Kyle Enoch sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime, each team hit one free throw before Curran untied the score for the final time with a jumper with 3:40 left. He added another just over a minute later for a 58-54 lead before Bretschneider closed out the mini-run with two free throws with 58 seconds left.

Arthur got the deficit back to 62-58 on a layup with 19 ticks, but Curran and Enoch combined to go 4-for-4 at the line to seal the game.

Arthur finished with 14 points and seven rebounds while GARAN DICKSON (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) contributed nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Enoch had 12 points and eight rebounds for Lebanon Valley.

The Red Hawks are now off until Monday, November 27 as they will play their home opener against Berkeley College at 7:00 pm.
