Women's Basketball Topped by Mount St. Mary

Montclair, NJ (11/26/06) – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team put four players in double figures as they cruised to an eighteen point victory over Montclair State University.

What was a back and forth contest for much of the first half turned toward the Blue Knights as they finished the half on an 18-6 run. Tied 17-17 with 7:45 left to play in the half, Mount Saint Mary scored the next seven points and would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the way.

Senior LaSheena Brown ( Malverne, NY) and freshman Shannon Sangster ( Syracuse, NY) each finished with 14 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the Blue Knights. Junior Jackie Markert ( Voorheesville, NY) had a fine night as well, pouring in 11 points to go along with 7 boards.

Senior Annie Cossolini ( Fanwood, NJ) put in a strong effort from the point guard position. She dished out 9 assists and also contributed 5 points.

For the visiting Red Hawks, sophomore AMY BONK ( Edison, NJ) was the leading scorer with 10. Senior STEPHANIE MACHIN ( New Providence, NJ) just missed a double-double, finishing the night with 9 points and 8 boards.

The Blue Knights improved their season record to 3-1. Montclair State dropped to 2-4, three of their losses coming at the hands of NCAA Tournament qualifiers from last season.

Next up for Mount Saint Mary is their Skyline Conference opener at St. Joseph's College on December 2. Montclair State opens up NJAC play against Rutgers-Camden, also on December 2.
