BRIANNA GILLIN scored three times and classmate
SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK added two goals as Montclair State edged McDaniel, 8-7, in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action on Tuesday evening.
The Red Hawks are now 2-0 on the season as they avenge a loss to McDaniel last season.
Montclair jumped on top as Brocklebank scored just under five minutes into the game. McDaniel would respond with a goal at the 7:12 mark. The Red Hawks then added two more as
JENNIFER TANIS and
BETHANY BLAINE each scored to give MSU a 3-1 lead. After McDaniel cut the lead back to one, Gillin scored two straight as the Red Hawks led 5-2 at halftime.
In the second half, Tanis and Gillin scored to boost, Montclair State's lead to 7-2, however, McDaniel answered with three consecutive goals, the last coming with 21:42 left as the lead dwindled to 7-6. Brocklebank countered for Montclair with 4:26 to play to give the Red Hawks a two-goal cushion. McDaniel would get one more with 56 seconds remaining but Montclair would hold on for the victory.
Kristin Kuhmann made 11 saves in goal for the Red Hawks.
PATTI FLANAGAN had four caused turnovers for Montclair State.
The Red Hawks return to action on Thursday, March 16 as they face Dickinson College at 9:00 am.
