SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK scored three times, however, Drew University came up with the game-winning with 82 seconds left as the Rangers handed Montclair State its second straight loss, 9-8 on Thursday evening.
The loss was the Red Hawks' second straight and dropped MSU's record to 3-3.
Tied 5-5 at halftime, the Rangers toko the lead scoring twice in the first 15 minutes of the half. Katiy Ryan put Drew back in front and Courtney Cunningham's goal with 16:36 to play made the score, 7-5. Montclair State would get one back as
ANN DAILY scored with 14:57 to play. Justine Beirne pushed the lead back to 8-6 with a goal at 7:48 remaining but Montclair would strike twice to tie the game for the third time.
NICOLE ROSELLE scored on a free-position shot with 3:23 left to bring Montclair State within a goal. Brocklebank then tied the game as she collected her third goal with 2:29 to go. Drew would get the game-winning goal with 1:22 left as Lindsay Perno scored on a free-position attempt.
MARYKATE DIBENEDETTO, who had a goal and two assists, put Montclair State on the board 3:56 into the game. Drew would score the next two goals as Makenzie Sadler and Courtney Cunningham found the back of the net. Daily tied the game with 19:20 left before halftime, but again Drew countered with three goals over the next seven minutes to take a three-goal advantage. Cunningham scored twice and Ryan once in the mini spurt.
The Red Hawks would then answer with three goals of their own to forge the halftime tie.
BETHANY BLAINE made the score 5-3 and Brocklebank tallied twice in the last 39 seconds.
Kristin Kuhmann made 10 saves for Montclair State while Drew goalkeeper Casey O'Brien had eight stops.
Cunningham finished with four goals while Ryan had two and four assists as the Rangers outshot Montclair State, 22-21.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 1 as they play their first Skyline Conference game at Centenary College. First draw in Hackettstown, NJ is set for 1:00 pm.
