SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK scored four times and
ANN DAILYand
JENNIFER TANIS each added three goals as Montclair State won its eighth straight and tied two school records with a 17-3 win over College of Mount Saint Vincent in Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse action at a cold and rainy Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.
BRIANNA GILLIN had two goals and three assists as the Red Hawks improved to 11-3 on the season and finished off their Skyline Conference slate at 6-0. The 11 wins ties the school mark held by the 2004 and 2005 squads and the eight consecutive wins matches the same record set during the 2004 campaign when Montclair began the year at 8-0.
Amanda Nadhir had two goals for the Dolphins (7-8), who finished fourth in the Skyline Conference at 3-3.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday, April 26 in the opening round of the Skyline Tournament. MSU, the No. 1 seed, will host the fourth-seeded Dolphins at 4:00 pm .
In this afternoon's tournament preview, the Red Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first seven-plus minutes scoring on each of their first four shots.
MARYKATE DIBENEDETTO scored with 24:37 left to put Montclair on the board. Daily scored 90 seconds later and Tanis made it three goals in a span of 1:49 , before Gillin got her first eight seconds after as Montclair led 4-0.
Maureen Payne scored for Mount St. Vincent with 21:57 to play, however, MSU added two goals in the next 24 seconds on goals by Gillin and Daily. Brocklebank collected her first with 20:57 to play and the game went scoreless for the next 13 minutes until Tanis notched her second with 7:48 left to give Montclair State an 8-1 advantage.
CRISTIN BENTZ and
NICOLE ROSELLE would add goals for the Red Hawks before Nadhir answered for the Dolphins, cutting the lead to 11-3 with 3:50 left before halftime.
Tanis countered with her third 35 seconds later as Montclair led 11-2 at the half.
Nadhir opened the second half with her second goal before MSU scored the final six. Brocklebank had three, including her fourth of the game with 6:34 to play. Roselle , Daily and
LAUREN SCARPA accounted for the final Red Hawks scores.
Senior
JENN BOGIN made eight saves in her final regular-season home game. Tara Staples had six saves for the Dolphins as he played the second half. Alexis Balincongan made five in her first half work.
