Owings Mills, MD (5/14/06) – The Montclair State men's lacrosse team fell short in its bid for a fourth straight championship as the third-seeded Red Hawks fell to top-seeded Villa Julie College on Sunday afternoon.
BRYAN KLIMCHAK had six goals for MSU, which completed its season at 9-9. The Red Hawks had reached the championship game by knocking off No. 2 seed Richard Stockton in the semifinals on Friday evening.
Klimchak's six goals gave him 63 for the season, which extended his single-season mark. Senior
DAVE ARMSTRONG finished with three assists in the game and 57 for the season, the second-highest single-season total just two shy of the record of 59 set in 2000 by Will Van Dorn.
Klimchak scored three minutes into the game to give Montclair at 1-0 lead, however, the Mustangs scored the final three goals of the period and added one more to start the second as Andy Bishop-Woelfel scored with 11:02 left. Klimchak would get MSU back within two on a power-play marker 41 seconds later, but Bishop-Woelfel scored five minutes later and Villa Julie added two more before halftime as the Mustangs led, 7-2.
Klimchak scored twice more in the third quarter as MSU trailed 9-4 heading into the fourth period. Villa Julie then put the game away as it scored the first three goals of the final period to build an eight-goal cushion with just over 11 minutes later.
MATT SHARP would score twice for Montclair State, which was outshot in the game, 49-24.
TIM CONDRON had 19 saves for the Red Hawks.
