GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team had a 9-5 victory over Montclair State University in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday.
Rowan, the two seed, improves to 38-3 on the year, breaking the previous school record of 37 wins in a season (1999 and 1994). The Profs will face the number three seed, Ramapo College on Friday, May 5 at 4 p.m. in Camden , NJ . Ramapo recorded a 4-3 win over fourth seeded William Paterson University on Tuesday. The Red Hawks (28-11) play the loser of the game between top seeded Rutgers-Camden and the six seed, The College of New Jersey on Friday at 11 a.m.
Pitcher Colleen Oswald Pitched a complete game for her 30 th victory of the season. She allowed four hits and struck out three batters. Second baseman Lauren Navarro went three for four with two doubles, one run scored and one RBI. Left fielder Kristina Brenner and right fielder Stacy Haas each contributed with two hits (three at bats) and two runs scored. First baseman Jamie Assini was two for three with a double, one run and one RBI. Third baseman Kristin Wallace added two hits (four at bats), a double, one run and one RBI.

JENNIFER JIMENEZ had one.
Rowan scored four runs in the first inning. Brenner and Wallace reached base with singles and designated player Jen Lake walked to load the bases. Brenner and Wallace came home on an error. Center fielder Katie Lavin had a RBI single that scored pinch runner Jen Blair and Navarro came home on an error. The Profs added two runs in the second and one in the third and fourth innings for an 8-0 lead. In the second, Brenner scored on an error. Catcher Kim Ryan fouled out to the shortstop and Assini tagged up to score. Assini had a RBI double in the third and Navarro doubled in Lake in the fourth inning.
Montclair State cut the lead to 8-5 with five runs in the top of the fifth. Jimenez walked with the bases loaded to plate the first run. Ferranti hit a single that scored two runners. Tantum reached base on an error, bringing home two more runs. Rowan added one run in the bottom half of the inning. Wallace doubled to left field, scoring Haas.
