Tanis Powers No. 6 Montclair State Past Muhlenberg

Allentown, PA (9/16/06) – Junior forward JENNIFER TANIS (Oak RIdge, NJ/Jefferson) scored notched her first career hat trick and assisted on another goal as sixth-ranked Montclair State powered its way to a 6-1 win over Muhlenberg College on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman REBECCA DOBIESZ (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) added two goal while KRISTEN SWARTZ (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) had a goal and two assists as the Red Hawks improved to 5-0 on the season. MSU defeated the Mules (4-2) for the third consectuvie season and fifth time in seven meetings between the teams.

Kate Moyer had the lone goal for Muhlenberg.

Tanis gave Montclair State a 1-0 lead 6:45 into the game as she tapped in a redirected shot for her fifth goal of the season. Moyer would tie the game at 22:17 as she grounded a shot past MSU goalkeeper JACQUIE SUPKO (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown).

Tanins however gave Montclair the lead for good just under five minutes later as she broke away and beat the goalkeeper Lauren Schram on a reverse sweep. Tanis would then assist on Dobiesz first goal at 29:05 to give the Red Hawks a 3-1 lead an Swartz' goal at 34:12 helped stake Montclair State toa 4-1 lead at the break.

In the second half, Swartz would assist on Dobiesz second goal as she slid a crossing pass from the right side on to the stick of Dobiesz, who banged in the shot for her seventh tally of the season.

Tanis capped off Montclair State's scoring, collecting the hat trick 30 seconds later. Swartz served a long cross from the right side to Tanis for the goal and a career-best seven points.

Supko made three saves for MSU in the first 58:11 before giving way to JACKIE DERICCO (Belmar, NJ/St. Rose), who made one stop in the final 11:49. Schram had four saves for Muhlenberg.

Montclair State outshot the Mules, 13-7 and held a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 20 when they host Kean University in their NJAC opener at Sprague Field. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
