Montclair, NJ (9/25/06) - Freshman forward
NATALIA SISTI (Lincoln Park, NJ/DePaul Catholic) scored with just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half for what proved to be the game-winner as Montclair State edged Centenary College, 1-0 in NCAA Division III Women's Soccer action on Monday afternoon.
The goal upped the Red Hawks' record to 6-2 this season but more importantly it was the 100 th career victory for Montclair State head coach Eileen Blair. Now in her ninth season, Blair is 100-55-19, which includes one NJAC championship, a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament and five appearances in the ECAC Division III Metro Tournament, including the 2000 title.
Sisti, the NJAC Rookie of the Week, collected her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Senior
DARA NALVEN (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) served a cross from the right side to the far left post where Sisti headed the ball just inside the iron for the game's lone goal.
The score came after the Red Hawks were denied three times by Cyclone goalkeeper Coree Reuter ( LaCenter, WA/LaCenter). Centenary (2-4) had their opportunities in the first half as well, but MSU senior
KRISTIN KUHMANN ( Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) stopped both chances as MSU led 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, Kuhmann stopped two shots by Kiti Ovaskainen ( Helsinki, Findland/Vaskineoren Lukio) and Nicole Borden (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial), the second shot coming with 19:07 left in the contest. Likewise, Montclair has their chances to extend the lead, however, Reuter made three saves and got a little help from the crossbar on another shot.
Reuter finished with eight saves while Kuhmann made four in recording her sixth shutout of the season.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday as they host the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff of the NJAC contest is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
