Swimming Knocks Off William Paterson

 Montclair, NJ (1/20/07)– Freshman BRANDON SANDS (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) was a double-winner while junior KRISTINE BATES (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and Freshman JESSICA PATALANO (Edison, NJ/Bishop Ahr) tripled on the women's side as the Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet from William Paterson on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Panzer Pool. With the victories MSU moves to 6-4 on the year with a 121-102 triumph the Red Hawks (5-5) women won their third straight meet, 130-04.

Grace McKay (Fairlawn , NJ /Fairlawn) and Jessica Lyon (Pequannock, NJ Pequannock) each won an event for the William Paterson women, now 8-2 on the season. Vojtech Karas (Brno, Czech Republic/Luduika Danka) and Michael O'Shea
(Edgewater , NJ /Leonia) each won events for the men's team (5-3).

Sands captured the 500 and 1000 freestyle with times of 4:59.69 and 10:19.14, respectively. Other first place winners for Montclair State included Freshman Bryan Murphy (Sussex, NJ/Vernon Township), who went on the win the 200 Fly (2:16.27) and Freshman Joe Sweeney (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon) won the 200 Individual with a time of 2:16.27.

First place winners for the Pioneers included Karas and O'Shea. Karas capturing the 1000 Free (48.92) the 200 Free with 1:50.51. O'Shea placed first in both 1-Meter Dives Rounds, with a score of 135.90 in the first round and 210:20 in the second.

On the women's side, Bates earned first-place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles with times of 25.47 and 56.29, respectively. Patalano earned first place finishes in the 200 and 500 Free with times of 2:06.91 and 5:43:40 , respectively. Both went on to help teammates CAITLIN ROTONDO (Brick, NJ/Methacton), RAQUEL ERWIN (Ridgewood , NJ / Ridgewood ) in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a first place finish of 3:54:80.

Montclair State returns to action next Tuesday, January 23 as the Red Hawks travel to Drew University to take on the Rangers at 5:00 pm .
