CAITLIN ROTONDO (Brick, NJ/Methacton) was victorious in three events on the women's side while sophomore
JOHN ADAMS (Wharton, NJ/Pope John XXIII) did the same for the men as Montclair State swept its third straight dual meet as the Red Hawks downed Drew University on Tuesday evening.
The men (7-4) won their third straight with a 124-73 win while the women (6-5) made it four in a row with a 118-13 victory.
ROtondo won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke as she posted times of 1:11.58 and 2:36.09, respectively. She also swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200 medley relay team which recorded a time of 2:03.11. Rotondo was joined on the relay by
LAURA FLYNN (Andover, NJ/Lenape Valley),
JESSICA GUTH (Andover, NJ/Newton) and
RAQUEL ERWIN (Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood).
Junior
KRISTINE BATES (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) won the 100 and 200 freestyles. Bates posted a time of 2:07.09 in the 200 and before coming back to register a 58.09 in the 100. Sophomorre
KATIE CURRAN (River Edge, NJ/River Dell) was the third double-winner for MSU as she finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:50.84) and 200 butterfly (2:29.98).
Junior
CREENA SPRAGUE (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) took first place in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 20:28.48.
On the men's side, Adams won the 100 backstroke (57.10) and 200 backstroke (2:09.57) while also swimming the first leg of the first-place 200 medley relay team. Adams, Joe Sweeney (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon), Bryan Murphy (Sussex, NJ/Vernon Township) and
AHMED ABDELAAL (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) posted a time of 1:45.03.
Sweeney also won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.97) with Murphy taking top honors in the 200 fly (2:19.36).
BRANDON SANDS (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) captured the 1650 freestyle (17.24.78) and
RICKY MILLER (Seaside Park, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) won the 200 freestyle (1:50.06).
TIM CHAMBROVICH (Allenhurst, NJ/Red Bank Regional) and
MOHAMED ABDELAAL (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) rounded out the MSU victories with wins in the 100 freestyle (50.84) and 50 freestyle (22.68), respectively.
Both teams return to action on Saturday, January 27 at the Panzer Pool as they host Rowan University at 1:00 pm.
