Montclair, NJ (10/2/07) – Juniors Meghan Hall (Turnersville, NJ / Washington Township) and Tina Londino (Gloucester City, NJ / Gloucester City) each had a goal and an assist as William Paterson upset 10 th-ranked Montclair State, 3-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference field hockey action at Sprague Field on Tuesday evening.
Chelsea Winkelspecht ( Sicklerville, NJ / Washington Township) also had a goal as the Pioneers posted their third straight victory, improving to 7-4 overall while moving to 2-1 in the NJAC.
Sophomore
MEGAN PIETRUNTI (Middletown, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) had a goal for Montclair State, which fell to 9-2 overall, 1-2 in the conference as the Red Hawks lost for the second time in three games.
The Pioneers jumped out on top quickly, just 2:30 into the match as Winkelspecht , the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, scored her fourth of the season. On a 2-on-1 break from 25 yards out, Hall moved down the left side before sliding the ball in front of cage where Winkelspecht made a diving attempt and just got enough of the pass to direct the ball into the cage as William Paterson grabbed the 1-0 lead.
Montclair State would answer exactly two minutes later as Pietrunti collected her seventh of the year, knocking in a shot over the head of Christina Auger ( Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills).
William Paterson regained the lead at 17:42 of the period as Londino put a shot on goal from the left side that was deflected in by Hall to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead. It was Hall's team-leading seventh goal of the season. William Paterson would add one more before the half as Londino fired a shot from the left side of the circle past a diving
JACQUIE SUPKO ( Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) as WPU took a two-goal lead into halftime.
Auger would make that lead hold up as she recorded three of her four saves in the second half. Auger denied Jen Tanis (Oak Ridge, NJ / Jefferson) on a backhand three minutes into the second half and then came up with a glove save on Tans at the 48:54 mark. The Red Hawks would get one more opportunity, but Auger stopped
JUSTINE DIPAOLO ( Lanoka Harbor, NJ / Lacey Township) with a kick save with 9:53 to go.
Supko had three saves for Montclair State, which held a 10-9 advantage in shots and had eight penalty corners to WPU's seven.
Montclair State returns to action on Monday, October 8 as the Red Hawks travel to St. David's, PA to face Eastern University at 4:00 pm.
