Montclair, NJ (10/24/07) – Freshman forward
CHRISTYN SCILLIERI (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Valley) collected her team-leading 10 th goal with 5:20 to play in the first half, a goal which proved to be the difference as Montclair State posted its second straight win, knocking off Ramapo College, 1-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Soccer action at a rainy Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore goalkeeper
LEAH TEPPERMAN ( North Andover, MA / North Andover) made four saves as the Red Hawks (8-8-1) got back to the .500 mark for the first time this season and more importantly earned the No. 4 seed and a first-round home game in the upcoming NJAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Red Hawks, who finished their league slate at 6-3, will host No. 5 seed Kean University at Sprague Field on Saturday, October 27 at 2:00 pm.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica DaRold ( Sayreville, NJ / Sayreville War Memorial) made three saves for Ramapo, which must now wait and get some help in order to secure the No. 6 seed. The Roadrunners (10-8-1, 3-5-1 NJAC) are currently two points ahead of Rutgers-Camden for the final spot. Ramapo needs the Scarlet Raptors to either lose or tie against New Jersey City when those two teams meet on Thursday, October 25 in Jersey City. The Rutgers-Camden/NJCU contest was postponed on Wednesday.
Scoreless through the first 25 minutes, the Roadrunners had a golden opportunity to put the first goal on the board as Ramapo was awarded a penalty kick. Junior Erin Stern ( Forked River, NJ / Lacey) took the kick, however her attempt was stopped by a diving Tepperman keeping the game scoreless.
Less than 10 minutes later, Montclair would take the lead. Sophomore
LARA KAMINSKI ( Rahway, NJ / Union Catholic) put through a ball from 40 yards out to within five where Scillieri was able to pick up the pass and beat both DaRold and a defender to the ball. The freshman, who has now scored in five straight games, tapped a shot inside the right post for the lone score of the game.
Each team collected 12 shots in the game while Ramapo held the edge in corner kicks, 4-2.
