MICHAEL JUMP (Toms River, NJ / Toms River South) threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns to lead Montclair State University to a 28-22 over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Hawks improve to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Rowan has a 4-4 overall record and a 2-3 NJAC mark. MSU also increased its lead in the series between the teams to 26-21 as the Red Hawks recorded their second straight win against the Profs, something Montclair had not done since the 1989-1990 campaigns.

For Rowan, quarterback Tim Hagerty (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) totaled 86 yards passing, completing eight of 17 attempts before leaving the game with an injury in the third quarter. Backup quarterback Joe Rankin (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) rushed for one touchdown. Superback Ben Boursiquot (fr. West Orange, NJ/ West Orange) ran for 59 yards on eight touches, while superback Ulysses Encarnacion (sr. Little Ferry, NJ/Ridgefield Park) had 53 yards on 17 carries. Wide receiver Billy Magill (fr. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) caught six passes for 50 yards.
Linebacker Andrew Yezzi (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) compiled 12 tackles and 3.5 tackles for a loss (-8 yards). Safety Mike Barone (so. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) added five stops and one pass breakup. Safety Kelvin Bellamy (sr. Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) had four tackles, two tackles for a loss (-5 yards), one sack (-4 yards) and one pass breakup. Cornerback Kenneth Quinones (jr. Dover, NJ/Dover) contributed with one interception.
Montclair State got on the scoreboard first with a five yard touchdown run by Bliss at 9:12 in the first quarter. The Red Hawks started on the Profs' 17 yard line after linebacker Russ Comune (sr. Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) recovered a fumbled snap. In the second period, Rowan wide receiver Davon Edwards (jr. Whitesboro, NJ/Middle Twp.) had a 13 yard touchdown scamper. The PAT attempt was blocked by tight end
JEREMY MERCER (jr. Leonardo, NJ/Middletown S.) to make the score 7-6. It was Mercer's seventh block of the season, one shy of
MIKE AJADI's (Bloomfield, NJ / Bloomfield) team record of eight set a year ago. Boursiquot carried the ball four times for 33 yards in the drive.
Jump and Papcun connected on a 22 yard touchdown pass with 29 seconds left. Wide receiver
MARIO MCLEAN's (fr. Boonton, NJ/ Montville) 35 yard punt return gave Montclair State the ball on the Rowan 43 yard line. Jump had three completions for 30 yards prior to the score. Prof kicker Dan Roberts (sr. Eastampton, NJ/Hamilton West) made a 43 yard field goal as time expired to cut the deficit to 14-9 at the intermission. Rowan started on its own 46 yard line after a squib kick. Hagerty threw a 14 yard pass to wide receiver Val Terebizh (so. Fort Lee, NJ/ Fort Lee) to put the Profs in field goal range.
Roberts added a 29 yard field goal at 9:37 in the third. Wide receiver Adam Preciado (jr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) broke loose on a 20 yard scamper and Hagerty had an eight yard toss to Magill. Jump found Papcun with a 45 yard touchdown strike at 10:33 in the fourth quarter to give the Red Hawks a 21-12 advantage. Rankin's one yard touchdown carry at 7:48 brought the Profs within two (21-19). Preciado ran for 28 yards on two attempts before Rankin found the end zone. Mercer had a four yard touchdown reception at 3:34. The big play in the drive was a personal foul on third and 14 that kept the Red Hawks' drive alive. Roberts kicked a 24 yard field goal with 1:22 remaining to end the scoring. Linebacker Eric Trojan (so. Erial, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) recovered a fumbled punt return on the Montclair State 11 yard line to set up the kick.
Montclair State returns home for its final two games of the regular season. The Red Hawks will host backyard rival William Paterson University at Sprague Field on Saturday, November 3 at 6:00 pm.
