Ewing, NJ (10/30/07) – The College of New Jersey women's soccer team will play for its third straight New Jersey Athletic Conference title as the Lions slipped past visiting Montclair State University, 1-0, on Tuesday.
The win put top-seeded TCNJ at 16-0-1 on the season, while the fourth-seeded Red Hawks evened their record at 9-9-1.
This marked the fifth time in the last six years the teams have met in the NJAC Tournament with the previous four coming in the championship game. TCNJ now holds a 4-0-1 mark in those games.
The Lions will now host third-seeded Richard Stockton College in the championship game set for Friday, November 2. Game time at TCNJ's Soccer Complex is 3 p.m. Richard Stockton defeated Rowan University 1-0 to advance to the title game.
The game's only goal came 4:21 into the second half when junior Coleen Weber (Mullica Hill, NJ/Woodstown) jumped on a loose ball in the MSU penalty area and drilled it into the net for her fifth goal of the season.
The Lions had a couple of chances to pad their lead, but Red Hawk keeper
LEAH TEPPERMAN (North Andover, MA/North Andover) made several acrobatic saves to keep it a one-goal game. She finished the game with 12 saves.
Montclair's best chance to pull even came midway through the second half when
JACKIE MCGRATH (Vernon, NJ/Vernon) settled a corner kick just off of the far post, but TCNJ goalie Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) made the save. The sophomore finished with three saves for her ninth shutout of the season.
