Redlands Knocks Off Women's Soccer

Montclair, NJ (10/8/07) – Freshman Leslie Horner (Portland, OR/Woodrow Wilson) and junior Becky Willis (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) scored nearly four minutes apart late in the second half as University of Redlands rallied for a 2-1 victory over Montclair State in NCAA Division III women's soccer action at MSU Soccer Park.

Breann Puchalski (Redlands, CA/Redlands East Valley) and Jessica Hoyt (Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly) each collected assists as the Bulldogs gained split of their East Coast trip and improved to 5-3-3 this season. Redlands fell to No. 2 ranked The College of New Jersey on Saturday, 4-0.

Freshman LIZA OFFREDA (East Rutherford, NJ / Midland Park) had a goal for the Red Hawks, who fell to 4-7-1 with their second straight and fifth one-goal loss this season.

Offreda gave Montclair State the lead 14:06 into the contest as she collected her fourth goal of the year. NATALIA SISTI (Lincoln Park, NJ / DePaul) put a shot on goal that was partially blocked by a defender. The ball was headed for the net and Offreda tapped in the rebound for the goal and a 1-0 lead MSU would take into halftime.

The game in favor of the Red Hawks as LEAH TEPPERMAN (North Andover, MA / North Andover) made four saves to keep Montclair State in front until Horner tied the game with 17:56 to play. Puchalski served a ball into the box where Horner knocked in a shot off a scramble for her third tally of the year and a 1-1 tie. Willis then put Redlands in front 4:36 later as she scored off Hoyt's initial shot.

Tepperman finished with five saves for Montclair State while Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT / Olympus) made two stops for the Bulldogs. Redlands outshot MSU, 12-7 and had the edge in corner kicks, 7-4.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, October 10. Montclair State is in New Jersey Athletic Conference action in Union as the Red Hawks face Kean University at 7:30 pm. Redlands returns to California and will take on University of LaVerne at 4:00 pm PDT.
