JAMES WILLIAMS (Englewood, NJ / Dwight Morrow) each scored 19 points as Montclair State rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Calvin College, ranked No. 24 by D3Hoops.com, 72-69 in the consolation game of the Steven Adubato One-on-One Classic at Panzer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

CARLOS PENA ( Clifton, NJ / Clifton) scored all 10 of his points in the second half as the Red Hawks evened their record at 5-5 in the first meeting between the schools since 1987, an 85-69 Calvin victory in the Colorado Tournament on December 31. It was also the fourth contest overall with each winning two.
Junior guard Dustin Smith ( Hamilton, MI / Hamilton) had a game-high 21 points for the Knights, which fell to 5-5 with its second straight loss. Smith was named to the All-Tournament Team along with Dudley.
Montclair State trailed 39-33 at halftime and fell behind 44-35 early in the second half as Derek Griffin ( Whitehall, MI/Muskegon CC) drilled a three-pointer with 19:06 left. But the Red Hawks scored the next 12 points to take their first lead since the midpoint of the first half. Williams and
SEAN YOUNG ( Scotch Plains, NJ / SP-Fanwood) each scored baskets before Pena reeled off five straight to tie the game at 44-44. After a Young free throw, Dudley connected on a baseline jumper to give Montclair a 47-44 lead with 16 minutes to play.
Calvin would regain the lead as Smith hit a three pointer and later added a free throw to put the Knights ahead 61-57 with 6:44 left. Montclair would answer, tying the game twice more as Dudley scored on a layup with 1:44 left. Williams drive and score put Montclair up 67-65 with 1:19 left and two more free throws by the freshman gave MSU a 69-65 advantage with 19 seconds remaining. Griffin countered with a jumper with nine ticks to pull Calvin within two at 69-67.

TOM BONARD (Westfield, NJ / Westfield) boosted the lead back to four with a pair of foul shots with five seconds left, but the Red Hawks were called for a foul sending Caleb Veldhouse (Sioux Falls, SD / Sioux Falls Christian) to the line where he hit both free throws for a 71-69 MSU lead with four seconds left. Pena added a free throw for the Red Hawks with four seconds left for a three-point margin and Montclair won the game as Griffin's last-second shot hit off the side of the rim.
Williams and Dudley each had five rebounds for Montclair State with Dudley handing our seven assists and grabbing two steals. Young finished with seven points and six rebounds while
RYAN WASHINGTON ( Edison, NJ / JP Stevens) contributed six points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Veldhouse put up 16 points and six assists for the Knights, which also got 11 points and seven rebounds from Griffin.
Montclair State returns to action on Thursday, January 3, 2008 as the Red Hawks face Roger Williams at 5:30 pm in the opening round of the Naismith Classic at Springfield College.
