Miller Leads Montclair Over Ramapo, 71-68

Mahwah, NJ – Freshman forward CHARLES MILLER posted a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds as Montclair State slipped past Ramapo College, 71-68 at the Bradley Center on Wednesday evening.

Fellow classmate KEN DUDLEY added 15 points for the Red Hawks (11-12, 4-8 NJAC), who defeated the Roadunners (18-6, 9-3 NJAC) for just the second time in the last eight meetings. MSU fell to Ramapo, 77-74 at Panzer Gymnasium on January 17.

Montclair built a five-point halftime lead thanks in part to a solid shooting effort in the first 20 minutes. The Red Hawks made 13-of-25 (52 percent) from the field while holding the hosts to just 36 percent (14-of-39). Miller netted 11 with Dudley and JOHN BYRNE added nine and five points, respectively.

In the second half, a Byrne three pointer and a Dudley free throw gave MSU its largest lead at 43-32 with 3:11 gone by in the period. Ramapo chipped away at the deficit and tied the game with 5:24 to play when Ahmad Mosby scored inside knotting the game at 61-61.

DONALD REID regained the lead for MSU, 63-61 on a layup and his free throw with 2:40 left gave Montclair a four-point advantage. Assad Shaakir made the score 66-65 however Miller converted a three-point play at the other end pushing the Red Hawks' advantage to 69-65 with 24 ticks.

Antoine Pryor kept the Roadrunners alive as he was fouled with 15 seconds to play while attempting a three-pointer. He sank all three foul shots, trimming the lead back to 69-68. Miller was immediately fouled and made both foul shots for a 71-68 lead.

John Wojick missed a three in the closing seconds but Ramapo was awarded the rebound as the ball went out of bounds. Montclair fouled Mosby with :02 left but he missed the first attempt. Mosby then intentionally mossed the second and pulled in the carom, however he could not get off a shot as time expired.

Dudley and Byrne grabbed six boards apiece while ERIC SYLVESTER had eight points and seven rebounds.

The Red Hawks head to Rutgers-Newark for their season finale on Saturday, February 17.
