STEPHANIE MACHIN (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Montclair State University over host Rowan Universityu, 72-59 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
Machin was seven for 12 from the floor and 11 for 15 from the line. She also recorded four assists and three steals. Forward
FERIN CATLETT (Lawnside, NJ/Haddon Heights, NJ) contributed with 18 points and six boards.
MSU is 11-9 overall and 7-3 in the conference. Rowan has an overall record of 8-13 with a 1-8 NJAC mark. Four players scored in double figures for the Profs. Guard Kristina Wallace (jr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) totaled 13 points while forward Lauren Byrne (sr. Paulsboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had 11. Byrne pulled down nine rebounds. Guard Brynn DeGroff (so. Wildwood Crest, NJ./Wildwood) and forward Ashley Cieplicki (so. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) were in double digits with 10 points apiece.
The Red Hawks were ahead 26-24 after the first half. Montclair State built a six point advantage (32-26) with a 6-2 run in the first four minutes of the second period. The run ended with Machin's two foul shots. Rowan came back and took the lead (35-34) after Wallace's layup at 13:37. Catlett tied the score at 36 with a three-point play at 13:01. With 9:22 remaining, MSU had a six point lead (50-44). Rowan had six unanswered points to tie the game (50-50) at 7:44. Byrne made two straight baskets and DeGroff hit two foul shots. MSU went back up on Catlett's free throw (51-50). The Red Hawks were ahead by six points (61-55) after Machin's layup with 3:54 left. Cieplicki's layup at 3:04 pulled the Profs within four (63-59). MSU ended the game with nine straight points. Machin scored four of the nine points.
In the first half, the score was tied six times. The last tie (24-24) came with 1:04 left when Wallace nailed a three. Catlett's layup with six seconds left gave MSU a two point lead at the intermission. Machin led all scorers in the first period with 11 points.

JESSICA GARRABRANT (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) chipped in with six points and four rebounds.
The Red Hawks return to action on Monday, February 5 as they play their final regular-season home game at Panzer Gymnasium. Montclair will face Drew University at 7:00 pm.
