Red Hawks Route Philadelphia Bible with Balanced Attack

Langhorne, PA - Freshman forward CHARLES MILLER (Linden, NJ/Linden) scored 15 points and pulled down 17 rebounds as Montclair State placed four players in double figures while snapping its two-game losing streak with an 87-57 victory over Philadelphia Biblical University on Wednesday evening.

Senior ERIC SYLVESTER (Orange, NJ/Orange) and KEN DUDLEY (Willingboro, NJ/Burlington Tech) each added 13 points as MSU improved to 10-11 on the year in winning its final non-conference game of the season.

Tied at 4-4 in the first 90 seconds of the game, Montclair State went on a 12-0 run to take control. Dudley gave MSU the lead for good and Sylvester scored four straight points before Torres' scored the final six points to give the Red Hawks a 16-4 advantage with 13:59 to play in the first half.

Philadelphia Bible would trim the lead back to 22-19 with 8:42 left as Jon Woodin scored five straight points. However, Montclair responded with a 12-0 run and pulled away to a 47-23 halftime advantage. Sylvester started the run with a jumper and GEOFF GRIVALSKY (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) drained a pair of three-pointers, the second with 5:31 left to make the score 32-19. Freshman guard MIKE HERN (Hamburg, NJ/Walkill Valley) capped the run with two free throws.

Montclair shot 59 percent (19-of-32) in the first half compared to just 6-of-13 (19 percent) by Philadelphia Bible.

Sophomore guard MAURICE TORRES (Summit, NJ/Summit) added 12 points for Montclair State while Hern chipped in with nine, four rebounds and five assists. Miller also collected five helpers. The Red Hawks shot identical 19-of-32 halves and held a huge 51-29 advantage in the rebounding department.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, February 10 as they travel to Jersey City, NJ to face New Jersey City University in an 8:00 pm NJAC matchup at the John J. Moore Athletic Center.
