Men's Lacrosse Throttles Centenary

 Hackettstown, NJ (4/7/07) – Junior attack BRYAN KLIMCHAK (Clark, NJ/AL Johnson) and freshman PATRICK NANN (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) each scored five goals and registered an assist as Montclair State continued its winning ways with a 7-3 victory over Centenary College in Skyline Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Hawks, who have posted the longest winning streak in 13 years, improved to 7-3 overall, 6-1 in the Skyline Conference. It the most consecutive wins Montclair has strung together since it ended the 1994 campaign with 12 straight victories.

Nate Small had four goals for Centenary, which fell to 2-9 overall, 0-6 in the Skyline Conference.

The Cyclones held the lead early as Vic DeMaio scored 2:43 into the game, but it would be the last time Centenary held an advantage. EVAN WEHMEYER (Succasunna, NJ/Pope John XXIII) tied the game just under five minutes later and Klimchak netted his first goal with 7:46 left to give MSU the lead. A.J. Bachman (Montville, NJ/Mountain Lakes) added a goal and Klimchak notched his second as MSU led 4-1 with 4:56 left. Small got a goal back for the Cyclones however Bachman and Klimchak scored eight second apart with 2:13 showing as Montclair led 6-2 after the first.

A.J. OSETTO (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) and TAYLOR BONNER (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) each registered a goal to extend the lead 8-2 early in the second quater and Klimchak scored twice inside the final three minutes as Montclair built a 10-3 advantage at the half.

In the second half, Montclair State continued its scoring barrage as JOHN DELLA PESCA (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) and ROBERT GLANDER (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) tallied goals in the third period and Nann scored twice to open the fourth as MSU would eventually run its string to nine consecutive goals and a 17-3 bulge with 11:27 left in the game.

Goalkeeper THOMAS BOWERS (Hamburg, NJ/Pope John XXIII) made seven saves in the first 47 minutes before ANDREW ROSADO (Elmwood Park, NJ/St. Joseph's (Montvale)) made five over the last 12 minutes of the game.

Wehmeyer finished with two goals and four assists while Bonner added two goals. TYLER MEIXNER (Hamburg, NJ/Vernon) had three assists as the Red Hawks outshot the Cyclones, 62-23. Wehmyer, who also had seven ground balls, was 10-of-11 on face offs as MSU took 20 of the 30 contested in the game.

Bachman recorded two goals with Glander getting a goal and two assists.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, April 14 as the Red Hawks host Susquehanna University at Sprague Field beginning at 2:00 pm.
